Peace Through Courage
In the spring of 2008 we started Mindsi2 as a way of exploring the attacks of 9/11 and the history that led to them. It grew into a deeper examination of the American empire. A look at the wars; WW1, WW2, on terror, drugs, Communism and all the other great causes that have been fought in our name over the past 100 years. It's a history of covert and overt intervention, the use of terror, the exploitation of drugs and many other disgraces. All of it capped off by the surreal eight years of the Bush/Cheney administration.
Mr. Bush spent eight years building an economic house of cards that conveniently collapsed as we got set to elect Barack Obama president. Who then confounded a lot of his supporters by appointing the people who caused the economic collapse to fix the problem. They did just that by bailing out Wall Street. Now they are telling the working people it's their benefits that will be cut to pay down the debt created by the wars and bank bailouts.
Our government for most of the past thirty years has been taken over by extreme right wing elements who basically rule by decree, fear and intimidation. They break the law and ignore the courts while the Democratic opposition hides from its responsibility thus abdicating its power. The media has become a pawn a spineless lap dog broadcasting sensationalism, fear, propaganda and advertising. It is a pattern you've seen repeated all across the world.
But in 2011 we have seen the birth of a global movement that has turned out corrupt governments in three countries already. The Arab spring has now led to an American fall as thousands have taken over public spaces and are camping out in protest. In all these places the common thread is people who seeking economic justice and are tired of corrupt leaders who sell them out time and again.
There is one single change we could make that would answer a lot of challenges we face. If we really fight a war on terrorism here is the best way to do it is by making our country as energy independent as possible by making the Untied States the world leader in renewable energy systems. By doing this we tackle three central problems that we face. First the problem of national security which is severely compromised by our main energy resources being on the other side of the world in unfriendly countries. Such a goal would go a long way to providing the kinds of jobs we need to grow our economy and improve more peoples standard of living. And finally such a plan would help meet a lot of the environmental challenges we face. Whichever country that emerges as the leader in this area will rule the world as renewable technologies are the only answer to an energy crisis won't go away. We will always have a crisis if we continue to depend on what's scarce and in the ground or take advantage at what's free and all around us.
